Google honors late actor Alan Rickman with a special doodle

Google has dedicated its homepage doodle to the late English actor Alan Rickman, who would have turned 77 on April 30, 2023. The doodle features an animated portrait of Rickman, capturing his distinctive facial expression and charisma.

Rickman was a versatile and acclaimed actor, who played memorable roles in films such as “Harry Potter”, “Die Hard”, “Sense and Sensibility”, and “Galaxy Quest”. He also had a distinguished career in theatre, especially with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The doodle celebrates Rickman’s breakthrough performance as Le Vicomte de Valmont in the Broadway play “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” (Dangerous Liaisons), which premiered on this day in 1987. The play earned him a Tony nomination and paved the way for his film debut as Hans Gruber in “Die Hard” the following year.

Rickman passed away in 2016 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He is remembered for his iconic roles on-screen, his philanthropy, and his kind and sensitive nature off-screen. He also directed three plays and two films in his lifetime.

Google said in a blog post that the doodle aims to honor Rickman’s legacy and inspire people to explore his work. The doodle is visible in several countries, including the UK, India, Australia, Canada, and the US.
