The consortium secured the project through a competitive bid of Rs 12,226 crore, demonstrating their commitment to this venture. Furthermore, the consortium has received assurance from railway authorities for an annual off-take of 80,000 wheels over the next 20 years, providing a strong foundation for sustained manufacturing operations in India.

An Export-Oriented Strategy: The Indian government's vision for this train wheel plant extends beyond fulfilling domestic demand. Under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, the aim is not only to eliminate the need for importing train wheels but also to build a capacity for export. The proposed factory, equipped with advanced technology, will be permitted to export forged wheels to Europe and other countries after fulfilling domestic requirements. This move is projected to reduce the annual import value of train wheels, which used to amount to approximately Rs 500 crore, while also allowing for an export share of 30-35% of the plant's annual production.

Timelines and Growth Prospects: The consortium has three years from the signing of the agreement to commence the supply of 80,000 wheels annually to the railways. During this period, the focus will be on constructing the plant and establishing rigorous testing facilities. Once the plant reaches its full production capacity, it is estimated that the annual revenue will range between Rs 1,500-2,000 crore, demonstrating the significant potential for growth and financial success.
